Pandemic Challenge Met By Eagle Scout Project In Arlington

This year’s Eagle Scout project took a different spin with the advent of coronavirus. Charlie Gaylord has built a “Little Free Pantry” outside the Arlington Central Library to meet the increased need for supplemental grocery assistance during the pandemic. He said the pantry is about a 4x4-foot wooden box meant to hold non-perishable items like canned goods and cereal to be donated to Arlington County Food Assistance Center (AFAC). Eviction Protection Fund Increased By Arlington County

Its existing eviction protection fund has been increased by Arlington County, Virginia, by another $1.1 million. It has also launched a pilot program to distribute grocery store gift cards to county residents who are in need. The additional funds have been approved by the county board from its COVID-19 contingent account for eviction protection through December for those affected by the pandemic. COVID-19 Collection Site Opened By Arlington

According to Arlington Connection, "Three cars negotiate the cones on Wednesday, March 25 at the temporary drive-across-through COVID-19 sample collection site set up by Virginia Hospital Center, partnering with Arlington County. The testing site is located across from the Planetarium at 1426 BN, Quincy and is by appointment only, from 9 a.m.-3:00 p.m. The site is for “symptomatic patients" (fevers, chills, cough or shortness of breath) who have received a written order for COVID-19 testing from a licensed health care provider."

Arlington Finalizes Contracts For Operation Of Homeless Shelters

Arlington County has awarded contracts for the operation of homeless shelters for adults. These contracts start from January 2020 and are for the county's two homeless shelters. A-SPAN will continue to operate the Homeless Services Center in the Courthouse Neighborhood, and New Hope Housing will take over from Volunteers of America – Chesapeake & Carolinas (VOA-CC) to operate the Residential Program Center (RPC) on Columbia Pike.
